Creating a survey

First of all you must be registered to create a survey. Once you are logged in, click the 'Create New Survey' link to start creating a survey.

Private vs. public

There are two types of surveys: private and public.

Private surveys are, of course, private meaning they can only be seen by voters that you have invited to vote on your survey. Voters don't have to be a registered member to vote, but will need a token to vote on the survey and view it's results.

Public surveys are viewable to everyone and can be voted on by any registered member.

Different survey types

There are five different kinds of survey types to allow for different aspect depending on the purpose of your survey. More information about the different survey types is listed on the 'Create New Survey' page.

Closing dates

When creating a survey, you are allow to set a closing date (or expiration date) for your survey. Therefore, adding a closing date will allow voters *not* to be able to vote *on* the closing date and onward, even if you generated a token for them. Not setting a closing date will keep the survey alive for a long, long time.

Survey options

There is a maximum limit of 10 options per survey. There are five initial option fields when you first view the 'Create New Survey' screen. to add more options click the 'Another option?' button. There must be at least two options for a survey to be valid.

Inviting your friends to vote

After you've successfully created a private survey, it is then time to invite some people to vote on it. Cause what's a survey if no one can see it?

From your survey page, you must generate survey tokens in order for people to view and vote on your survey. Scroll down to the 'Generate Survey Tokens' section and click 'Generate a new token.' You can either send a token to a friends email account or simply generate a token and send them a link manually (IM or email).

Revisiting surveys

Do you have to remember the token to revisit the survey later? The short answer is, "yes." The long answer is, "Not if you are a member." Members have the advantage of not having to remember each and every survey token, because the site will keep track of what they have voted on already so they can revisit surveys easily from their Voting History list.

What are survey tokens?

Survey tokens are for private surveys only and serve as two purposes:
1) To make sure voters only vote once for a survey.
2) To make sure that not just anyone can view the survey.
